Conformity
Garantie en conformiteit
Dutch law does not give goods a fixed guarantee period, and quoting one would understate your rights rather than explain them. What you are owed is goods that match what we said and that last as long as you could reasonably expect.
How many years of guarantee do I get?
Your legal rights under Dutch law are not limited to a fixed number of years. How long a product must last depends on what you can reasonably expect from it. Any commercial guarantee we offer is in addition to those rights, never instead of them.
This is a genuine difference from most of Europe, and it is why this site never quotes a guarantee measured in years. Naming a period would suggest your rights stop when it runs out. They do not.
So what am I actually owed?
Conformity: the goods have to be what a reasonable person would expect given what we told you and what you paid. For a box of socks that means:
- The fibre composition is what the product page said, by weight and by legal name.
- The number of pairs, the sizes and the colours are what was listed.
- The knit holds together in normal wear and normal washing.
- Seams do not open, heels do not go through in the first weeks, elastic does not die immediately.
- Dyes do not run onto the rest of a normal wash.
Socks are consumable in a way that a washing machine is not. Wearing a pair out over years is not a fault. A hole after a fortnight is.
Do I have to prove it was faulty when it arrived?
| When the problem appears | Who has to prove what |
|---|---|
| Within the first year after delivery | It is presumed the fault was already there when the goods were delivered. We have to show otherwise. |
| After the first year | You may be asked to show the fault existed on delivery rather than arising from wear. Photographs and the order number usually settle it. |
In practice, for something as inexpensive as a box of socks, we do not run an argument about proof. Tell us what happened and send a photograph.
What will you actually do about it?
- Repair is rarely sensible for knitwear, so in practice we replace or refund.
- You can ask for repair or replacement first. If that is impossible, disproportionate, or we do not do it within a reasonable time, you can ask for a price reduction or unwind the purchase.
- It costs you nothing: no postage, no handling, no restocking charge.
- A fault in one pair does not oblige you to return the rest of the box.
Do you offer a commercial guarantee on top?
Not as a separate scheme, no. We would rather deal with the occasional fault properly than run a programme with conditions attached to it. If we ever do offer one, it will be written down here, it will say who gives it and for how long, and it will sit on top of your legal rights instead of replacing them.
How do I raise it?
Write to support@sockmyfeetnl.shop or call +31 33 3033500. Include the order name, which box it was, which pair, and a photograph if there is something to see.
If you have simply changed your mind rather than found a fault, that is the separate right of withdrawal, which runs for fourteen days and needs no reason at all.
